THIRD YEAR IN A ROW: The team celebrate winning the Northern Conference Cup once again

THE Teesside University mens’ basketball are celebrating bringing home silverware once more.

The team won the BUSC Northern Conference Cup beat Chester University 77-74 in a thrilling final at Maiden Castle Sports Hall inDurham.

This is the third year in a row that the side have won the coveted competition.

Club chairman Thompson Charuma was ecstatic after retaining the cup.

Thompson said: “Considering we had lost a lot of senior players, it has really been a great team effort with everyone paying their role.

“All of our hard work this season has paid off in both the league and the cup.

“In the league, we’ve done really well.

“However, after three years undefeated in the cup, I’m quite speechless!”

It was a case of deja vu for the basketball side, having won the Northern Conference Cup last year in Leeds.

The side won last year’s final after beating Salford University 100-96 in double overtime.

Just like last year, the 2015 final was an incredibly close encounter with just three points in it between the two finalists.

However, it was Teesside that would win the cup for the third season running.

The side has been a force reckoned both in the cup and the league, looking to win league after coming up short last year.

But with a third cup in a row, the Teesside Univeristy Men’s basketball team have left a huge impact on the BUCS.

It’s been a hugely successful year in sports for the university.

Along with the success of the basketball side, the Teesside women’s hockey team won their league in convincing fashion going through the entire season unbeaten.

Teesside University have had quite the season in the world of sports.
